Virgin Hotels to check into Silicon Valley

Virgin Hotels, Sir Richard Branson’s lifestyle hotel brand, is expanding to the West Coast.

The company, part of the Virgin Group, announced today that it will open and operate a property in Milpitas, Calif., in Silicon Valley.

The hotel will be part of a residential and retail complex called The Fields that broke ground in November 2015.

The hotel, which will be developed by Lyon Living, is expected to break ground in the fall of 2017. It will likely open in the fall of 2019.

“As we grow the Virgin Hotels brand, the way we continue to expand our footprint in key destinations that align with our brand values is incredibly exciting,” says Virgin Hotels CEO Raul Leal. “Our move into Silicon Valley is the perfect example of this, given our dedication to thoughtful technology within our guest experience.”

So far, Virgin Hotels has one property open–the Virgin Hotels Chicago.

Virgin Hotels are expected to debut next in Nashville, Dallas, Palm Springs and New York. The company is exploring sites in cities such as Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, Austin, Seattle, San Francisco, Washington D.C., and London.

The Fields will have more than 1,100 residential units and 150,000 square feet of retail space. It will be located close to the BART system’s new gateway link to northwestern areas of Santa Clara County. The development is also next to Milpitas’ Great Mall, which is undergoing a $20 million renovation.

The development will include art installations, pop-up shops, restaurants, and a sustainability-driven grocery store.

“Perfectly positioned in the tech capital of the world, we’re pushing the boundaries of style and convenience in modern living, creating an environment uniquely suited to today’s residents and tomorrow’s entrepreneurs” says Lyon Living CEO Frank Suryan, Jr.

The Virgin Hotel Silicon Valley will have 200 rooms and suites, multiple food and beverage outlets including its flagship The Commons Club, a coffee shop, meeting spaces, and a rooftop bar and live music venue.
