A site in central Oakland, Calif., that used to host an auto body repair shop is now center stage for the construction of a 91-unit boutique apartment community that will be branded as Anton Edge. Anton DevCo, based in Pleasanton and Sacramento, Calif., has partnered on the project with Architecture Design Collaborative, which has offices in Laguna Hills and Arvada, Colo.

 

The building is a 15-minute walk from the 19^th Street BART station. The neighborhood is also served by bus routes and has close access to Interstate 80, which runs across the bay to downtown San Francisco. The apartment community has an impressive 87 Walk Score and 91 Bike Score. Although easy and multimodal access is helping transform the neighborhood, a zoning change kicked off the revitalization.

 

“The city worked incredibly hard to rezone the area for mixed-use and housing so it could capture the overflow of demand from San Francisco,” says Brandon Dinon, director of acquisitions for Anton DevCo. “Broadway is transforming before our eyes, and we had to be a part of it. We are glad we found a site.”

 

The building will offer studio, one-, and two-bedroom units. Besides being close to the BART station, the new building is within walking distance to restaurants, bars, and Sprouts Farmers Market. Amenities will include plank flooring, quartz countertops, slate-finish appliances, and European-style cabinetry. A fitness center, a social lounge, a pet spa, a bike workshop, and a maker’s room complete with lockers are also being planned. A roof deck on the seventh floor will provide fireside seating, a dining area, barbecue grills, and an outdoor movie theater.

 

“We want residents to embrace the entire experience of living at Anton Edge, from the neighborhood businesses to spending time with neighbors and friends,” said Corey DeManty, principal with ADC. “Anton Edge is more than just about building an apartment complex, we are building a vibrant community where people can work, relax, and enjoy each other.”

 

Anton Edge is the fifth apartment community in development or under construction for Anton DevCo in the San Francisco Bay Area. Construction on Anton Edge is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2021.
